Gutted and Breathless: as tough as it gets?
There’s no denying that I’m gearing up for the hardest fight of my life. Walking the Cape Wrath Trail in 10 days is going to be more arduous than having my stomach removed and tougher than the 16 nights I spent in intensive care earlier this year. Every day I will be battling calorie depletion, doing my best to service the physical demands of my body.
Not only is this going to be physically demanding, it’s what is it going to do to me inside my head? I’ll be miles away from loved ones and with little means of getting in contact with them. I’ll have very little contact with humanity on the trail itself and my only social interactions will be with my fellow walkers. Loneliness is a big factor in a place so barren.
So why am I doing this? I believe in giving something back to Macmillan Cancer Support, who have been there for my and I when we really needed them most.
