Simmons & Simmons has acquired pioneering legal engineering start-up Wavelength. The firm, which is based at the Barclays Eagle Labs start-up incubator in Cambridge, claims to be the first Solicitors’ Regulatory Authority-regulated legal engineering business in the world. Wavelength is led by co-founders Peter Lee and Drew Winlaw, formerly lawyers at Bird & Bird and Taylor Vinters respectively, and uses data science, technology and design to assist on projects in the legal industry. Simmons & Simmons managing partner, Jeremy Hoyland, said: “We approached Wavelength because we wanted to provide a better offering for our clients. All the big firms have been struggling with this area [of legal technology]. Wavelength has a lot of people who can help with this, and it would have been hard to grow such a capability organically.”
